These are big words that define a relatively new alternative therapy to dental decay prevention. These calcium and phosphorus molecules have a patented delivery system to dental enamel and dentin. The manufacturer of the product claims it will remineralize enamel or in fact, strengthen it. Several double blind studies dispute the findings and some support them. The material is widely used in Europe and slow to be accepted in this country. Several of the national brands of tooth paste are putting some of the product in their pastes, most notably, Sensodyne with others to follow. These products hold promise and we look forward to more sophisticated studies to help dentists make the best decisions with their patients to accomplish a healthier dental system.
