These drugs are primarily taken by women to fight or arrest the process of osteoporosis or in any patient who may be under treatment for bone cancer. There have been numerous reports of oesteonecrosis of the jaw bone in patients who have had dental extractions while being treated with one of these medications. Most occurrences have been related to the IV administration of the drug, but there is concern and caution being advised for all patients on these products who may require a dental extraction.
